Judging criteria
How the work
is read.
Four criteria, weighted equally. Each juror submits scored notes; the panel meets in person to reach final selection.
01
Conceptual rigour
Work that argues a position rather than illustrates one. Ideas held with clarity and conviction.
02
Material craft
Evidence of decisions made — in light, edit, sequence, surface. The hand of the maker visible.
03
Independence
A voice that is recognisably its own. Free of trend, pastiche or apology.
04
Resonance
Work that lasts longer than the moment it was made in. That changes on second viewing.
The process
01
Single-blind review
Submissions are reviewed without author or country attached. Only the work.
02
Panel discussion
Shortlists are debated in person across two days at the editorial board.
03
Final selection
Laureates are agreed by consensus and published in the annual archive.
